Sikkim University
Sikkim University is a central university established under an Act of Parliament of India. It is situtated in Gangtok. The campus is expected to be built at Yangang in South Sikkim district, about 56 kilometres from Gangtok. Its first chancellor was M. S. Swaminathan; Mahendra P. Lama was the first vice chancellor. Sikkim University, established by an Act of Parliament of India, came into existence on 2 July 2007. The first Vice-Chancellor of Sikkim University was Prof. Mahendra P. Lama of Jawaharlal Nehru University (2 July 2007 to 13 October 2012), and the second Vice-Chancellor was Prof. Tanka B. Subba from North Eastern Hill University (14 October 2012 to 15 October 2017). Both of them are internationally well-recognized academicians, scholars and teachers in their respective disciplines.
